Data sources are used by graphical objects that want to present dynamic data. There are two ways in which you specify which data source and data item to get data from - as a reference to the data item itself or as a reference to some data within the data item. In the editor, there are helper dialogs that can be used in order to construct them. This is the easiest way of constructing them, but it helps to know what the notation means when you read an existing reference string. This chapter therefore describes the notation that is used for data item reference strings.
Data sources can also be used from within scripts. This is further described in Chapter 19, Scripting
